Top Five: Lessons I Learned In My Twenties

48 comments:
Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of top five. I haven't done a top five in a while. I thought this would be an easy topic but when I actually started writing it I realized I learned a ton of lessons in my twenties! My twenties were full of foolishness and good times. It was also filled with confusion and being lost. Some lessons were pretty easy to learn and some I made twice and learned once lol!

1. Time does not heal all wounds. You have to make the first step towards the healing process. People kill me when they say give it time. I even say it as a reflex when trying to comfort someone. Until your willing to deal with whatever the problem is, it will boil inside you until it has no choice but to boil over unto every aspect of your life.

2. Clothes that fit make you look smaller. If your clothes are to tight they make you look bigger. Muffin top because of your jeans being to tight is not cute. Lesson more than learned!

3. I need my friends. Ladies, have you ever met a guy and made him your whole world? Did you stop calling your friends and gave him your full attention only to have him leave you high and dry? Did your friends give you the stank eye when you came crawling back? They should have.  Listen, I get it. you want your man to feel like your all in. BUT, you need your own life. Your own identity. Don't be that woman who wakes up ten years later saying she lost herself in her man and her kids. If he doesn't want you to have friends or time to yourself, HE'S CRAZY! RED FLAG, RED FLAG!Who wants to be around someone 24/7???!!! Lesson learned and only took one time.

4. Love does not hurt! This was one of my hardest lessons to learn. I have played the fool and been abused a time or two. I think that's why I don't question why some women stay in an abusive relationship. It's hard to break free from someone you love more than anything. It's hard to feel like your worth it when you think your not. Its hard to let go of whats familiar and break free into the great unknown. It's hard to feel like you failed at something. Last but not least, its embarrassing to admit so you just stay and take it. If you have a daughter, go hug her right now. After you've loved on her, please return to reading!

5. Sex does not equate to love! BOOM! I think most young girls I meet have this issue. They think he must love me because he said it and the next step is sex. Not that simple. Sex has a toll on our bodies. Your connected with that person physically and emotionally. Lesson learned and it took a couple of lessons BUT I got it now lol!

What lessons did you learn or are you learning in your twenties? Let's discuss! Until next time....................

  3. Following you back! Thanks for stopping by my blog. Yes I agree with your 5 lessons. I have experienced them all, then got older and wiser :) My dad used to always say, if you have to ask for help to put on your clothes or lie down on your bed to button your clothes...it does NOT fit! Following back too :)

  6. Great top 5 lessons! I'm in my twenties and I'm still learning. (I mean, we never stop learning, right?) There's a lesson that I want to share: if you are studying or working in something you love, don't stop doing it because your parents or any other person want you to do/or study another thing. Is not something I'm experiencing right now but I thought of sharing it with your lesson #3.
Thanks for stopping by my blog and for linking up to Nice to Meet You {Blog Hop} :) Hope to see you linking up again next week! I'm following you back :)

  7. Wow! Such a great post! You're an amazing writer. I loved the one about loving our friends and not being incapsulated by our significant other.

I can't remember what I learnt in my twenties, but I can tell you what m learning now, in my thirties, and it is to ALWAYS trust my instincts. Listen to that inner voice.

Thanks for sharing, might I suggest a book that changed my life: God Never Blinks by Regina Brett... If you haven't read it, please check it out.

Xoxo (I hope there's no captcha girl! It would appear I am a robot as I can never pass them! Lol )

I have 2 younger sisters and I worry about them constantly when it comes to boys etc.

Also yes-always make time for your friends. I've been the girl who makes their BF their whole world.. but you need that girl time too. :)

  19. Lovely blog and great post. It is definitely great because I can relate but mostly because I have learned my lesson and have proudly moved on (finally). Being in my early thirties, I often look back at those years, smile, then laugh, but happy to be where I am now. I'm stopping by from the Thursday blog hop and I'm happy I did. Please visit me if/when you get a chance!

  22. I'm going to be 35 this year and while in my 20s I think my biggest lesson was that it takes time to get to know yourself, what you like, who you are, and where you want to be. I am NOT where I thought I'd be when I left college. And that's okay because I've grown and I'm not that person anymore.

Great blog...found you via Aloha Friday Blog Hop! Glad to meet ya!
